Alan Gerson is an artist and recovering attorney. He received a BA in philosophy from Boston University (1974), an MFA from the University of New Orleans (1980) and a law degree from Tulane University (1989). From 1980 until 1985 Gerson was the Visual Arts Director at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans. During this time he was also pursuing his own art career and exhibiting in numerous group and one person shows. In 1986 he entered law school for some reason and then practiced law for three very very long years until he finally realized he was more interested in the color of the books and table at a deposition than in what the deponent was saying; and in 1992 he gave up his practice and returned to the art world. Since then he has been working in his studio full time. His work has been exhibited internationally. He was a participant in the 2003 Biennial In Florence Italy.

He is represented in numerous public and private collections including the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Gerson teaches the art foundations course at Loyola University. He lives in New Orleans with his wife Beth.
