Artist’s Statement
I am constantly inspired by American Landscape and its artistic heritage. What excites me most in nature is the deeply profound moments, where there is a connection with a higher energy and one feels alive. My paintings are a response to those moments, an attempt to recreate the heightened visual and emotional drama. In these works I seek to transcend the landscape as mere subject matter, and use it as a tool to illustrate nature’s spiritual or emotional essence. In some pieces I use the composition or presentation of the image to further convey an iconographic quality. These paintings have progressively become less about documenting a particular place, but more about expressing a particular emotional memory or moment experienced in nature."
