Artist Satement

Most of my compositions are born from walks, walks in the woods, along roadsides and along mountain trails. These walks are taken in early evening or during overcast skies, amidst a gentle rain or even while it is snowing, where mystery and calm are heightened by atmosphere and quiet light.

The paintings that come from these experiences are about capturing a feeling and about a spiritual moment that so often occurs when you venture into the openness of the outdoors. They are not intended to replicate a moment or a subject but to capture the essence of the experience. I often paint trees from admiration, respect, and a high interest in what they represent. They look and feel like individuals with great wisdom. The paintings of trees are as much portraits as they are landscapes. I hope my work brings peace and calm to those who choose to experience it.

Bio

I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri where I graduated from Maryville University with a BA in Communication and Art. Like many artists, I turned to commercial art for a living and the advertising industry still plays a role in providing for my family. In 1994 I moved to Colorado where my pursuit of painting flourished. Studying with Mark Daily and Quang Ho at the Art Students League of Denver had a significant impact on me as an artist. Their teachings helped bring my painting to a higher level.

Much of my inspiration comes from areas close to Golden, Colorado where our family currently resides. Having always felt a strong connection with the west, it will always to be an important part of who I am as an artist. While I continue to grow as a painter I take great pleasure in sharing experiences and moments captured on canvas. My work is in private and public collections throughout the United States and Europe.
