The figurative works I create evolve from day to day interactions, stories my children and wife share with me, or my love of the mythical, whimsical characters written about by the Romans and Greeks. I strive to bring forth, out of the cold clay and metal, the grace and inner strength of the male and female, the tender innocence of the child and the indomitable spirit of God's creatures. Albeit, past or present; real or imagined.
The relationship between humans and animals can be seen in a number of my works. In each piece, it is very important for me to focus on the smallest of details. From the placement of a hand; strands of hair blowing in the wind; the eye contact between the subjects; to the tiniest fingernails. In my view, it makes the sculpture complete.
At this period in my career, it is important to see not only the serious side of sculpting but to add a little humor in my subject matter. All that seriousness makes for a dull sculptor. All in all, to find enjoyment with both.
